Botetourt Funeral Home began as a dream. Having worked for someone else for sixteen years, it was a major decision to step out on our own and become the "owners". Ever since we made that step, we haven't regretted it for a minute.
Botetourt Funeral Home started to exist in May 1996 when I resigned as manager of a local funeral home. We remodeled the old Buchanan Motor Company on Main Street and was licensed to accept calls on July 7, 1996. On Labor Day of 1996 we began construction of our new facility at 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan. It sat on the outskirts of town, and some people said it wouldn't work but we had faith in the fact that a new larger building and more parking would be comforting to our client families.
In May of 1997, we held our Open House and many many people came to see us and the "New Funeral Home". Karen Faith Conner came into my life as a step-daughter but has become my "right-arm" in many aspects after getting her funeral service license. My wife, Bobbi has been retired from owning her own hairdressing business in 2005 and became our third full-time employee along with being the Vice-president of the company.
Over the past twelve years it has been quite a experience to be able to serve families one on one and be able to provide the high level of service with a reasonable pricing structure. Our Motto "Serving with Compassion" is practiced everyday. We try to keep the business end in the background and service in the forefront.
